The short answer

Installation follows the assessed design and execution plan. Temporary support, suitable bearings, connections and checks are coordinated before the new structure takes over the loads.

Confirm the design and site conditions

The engineer specifies the beam and its supports from the complete load path. Before steel is ordered, site dimensions and the current drawing revision must be coordinated. If the existing construction differs from the design assumptions, the affected work needs reassessment.

Plan access and the temporary condition

The contractor assesses the delivery route, handling equipment, work area and protection. Temporary support must be designed for the loads and the construction receiving them. The method cannot be selected solely from the final beam drawing.

Install to the agreed details

The beam, bearing components and connections are installed according to the project documents. A wall bearing and a column connection are different details. This explanation intentionally provides no bearing lengths, bolt sizes or prop spacing to copy into an unassessed building.

Check before closing the work

Complete the agreed checks and retain relevant records. Remove temporary support only when the plan permits it. Coordinate any protection, enclosure and finishing, and record changes in the final documents before details become concealed.

Frequently asked questions

Can steel be ordered from the opening width?

No. Member dimensions, supports and connections follow from the structural design, not width alone.

When can the temporary support be removed?

At the point allowed by the execution plan and the agreed checks for the actual construction. There is no universal waiting time for every project.
